All six bloodlines

  • The Crimson Heir personality card: a crowned vampire in a high red-lined collar holding a rose, with a castle and a full moon behind

    The Crimson Heir

The castle on the hill is yours.

Ambitious, proud and dangerously elegant, you belong to the oldest bloodline in the eastern mountains. You never forget a slight, you never lose your looks, and you never take the stairs when you can make an entrance.

    Turned 1590–1614
  • The Shadow Strategist personality card: a hooded vampire with red eyes raising a golden chess rook above a checkerboard floor

    The Shadow Strategist

    You saw this result coming.

Every move you make is planned three centuries ahead. You don't hold grudges, you file them, and half the courts of Europe still owe you a favour.

    Turned 1789–1815
  • The Velvet Aristocrat personality card: a vampire in a golden masquerade mask raising a glass of red wine under a candle chandelier

    The Velvet Aristocrat

    You were born for chandeliers.

You collect beautiful things, beautiful people and beautiful evenings. Mortals find you charming. Other vampires find you exhausting, because you always arrive last and leave first.

    Turned 1760–1799
  • The Night Scholar personality card: a vampire reading a glowing book in a candlelit library under a crescent moon

    The Night Scholar

Three hundred years of reading, and the list keeps growing.

You keep a library no mortal has ever seen and you annotate every margin. If you are honest, you became immortal mostly to finish your reading list.

    Turned 1640–1699
  • The Moonlit Wanderer personality card: a vampire in a top hat carrying a case at night, with a lamp post and a lit train behind

    The Moonlit Wanderer

    No coffin. Just a suitcase.

You have watched the sun set over a hundred cities and never once stayed for sunrise. Your passport is forged, but every one of your stories is true.

    Turned 1880–1913
  • The Feral Romantic personality card: a wild-haired vampire with golden eyes and outstretched arms before a blood-red moon and bats

    The Feral Romantic

    Half wolf, all heart.

Castles were never your style. You sleep among the roots, run with the wind and fall hopelessly in love at least once a century.

    Turned 1300–1399

How the quiz decides your bloodline

Each of the seven questions has four answers, and every answer gives points to one or two bloodlines. The bloodline with the most points is yours. A lore trial in three difficulties then decides your rank: Fledgling, Initiate, Nightwalker, Baroness or Baron, Countess or Count, Elder, Ancient. Only the hard trial reaches the two highest ranks.

Vampires in folklore

Long before Dracula, every region had its own vampire. In Slovakia and the Czech lands it was the upír, in Poland the upiór, in Romania the strigoi, in Greece the vrykolakas and in Serbia the vampir, the word that reached Western Europe with the reports of the 1720s. Literature then added the aristocratic vampire: Lord Ruthven in Polidori's The Vampyre (1819), Le Fanu's Carmilla (1872) and Stoker's Count Dracula (1897). Our six bloodlines borrow from all of them.
